Construction grace period for Eat Street businesses

10 January 2019

Transport for NSW is committed to working with local businesses before and during construction of the Parramatta Light Rail.

Following extensive consultation with the local business community, the NSW Government announced that main construction work along Parramatta’s Eat Street (defined as Church Street, between Palmer and George Streets) will not begin until 2020. This gives local businesses as much certainty, time and support as possible to prepare for light rail construction.

A construction grace period will also be in place on Eat Street each summer, from the beginning of November to the end of January. During this period, outdoor dining will be temporarily restored, hoardings will come down, and Transport for NSW will work with local businesses to deliver activities and events to attract people to the Parramatta CBD.

Additionally, the contractors will operate on a flexible construction schedule along Eat Street, working around evenings and other busy trading times to reduce impacts on businesses.

Transport for NSW will continue to work closely with businesses to provide information and support, including regular Parramatta Light Rail Business Reference Group meetings.
