Major intersection work on Church and Phillip Streets, Parramatta7 April 2020
From 8pm Thursday, 9 April 2020, the intersection of Parramatta’s Phillip and Church Streets will close for two and a half weeks to carry out necessary works on a major water main.
The work will occur 24 hours a day, 7 days a week from 8pm Thursday, 9 April, to 5am Monday, 27 April inclusive.
To support construction and operation of the Parramatta Light Rail, and to protect the integrity and operation of the water main at the intersection of Phillip and Church Streets, our infrastructure works contractor Parramatta Connect will replace the existing water pipe with a concrete-covered pipe. This will protect the water service operation when the light rail is constructed and operational.
Work will include:
• Excavation work on the roadway
• Isolating and draining the existing water main
• Cutting and welding of steel pipes
• Replacing the existing water main
• Covering the newly installed water main in concrete
• Reinstating the roadway when work is completed.
Due to this closure, the free 900 shuttle bus will be temporarily diverted along George Street for the duration of the work.
Pedestrian and traffic control will also be in place to ensure the safe movement around the work zones. Traffic management will include temporary closures to roads and footpaths, as well as the removal of kerbside parking within the work zone.
