Major roads makeover in Parramatta

10 June 2020

Navigating Parramatta will become easier following road upgrades completed as part of the Parramatta Light Rail program of works.

The widening and resurfacing of Hawkesbury Road, in association with the Westmead Redevelopment, marks the completion of preparation works in the Westmead Health Precinct.

In response to the recent COVID-19 lockdown measures, the construction team worked extended hours to complete the works as quickly as possible, providing vital access to the Westmead Redevelopment’s new central acute services building.

‘Enabling’ road works have also been completed under extended working hours, with O’Connell Street between Barney and Albert Streets in North Parramatta widened to four lanes. This follows the recent transformation of George Street in Parramatta to a two-way road.

While not directly on the light rail route, these road network upgrades will mean traffic can now move in and around Parramatta more efficiently.

Major construction on the Parramatta Light Rail is underway and expected to begin services in 2023.
