New businesses join the Business Reference Group

Some of Parramatta’s most popular eateries have joined the Parramatta Light Rail Business Reference Group, a forum set up by Transport for NSW to support local businesses during the construction of Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1.

Parramatta Light Rail program director Tim Poole said the new members include restaurant and cocktail bar Alex and Co., Lebanese eatery El-Phoenician, and two of Parramatta’s well-known burger restaurants Grill’d and Milky Lane, who would all bring valuable fresh voices to the table.

“We welcome any individual owner or local business who wishes to share their expertise and experiences,” said Mr Poole.

“Our small businesses are the engine room of NSW and we are committed to ensuring they have the support they need throughout Parramatta Light Rail construction.”

The Australian Turf Club, which owns and operates Rosehill Gardens Racecourse, advisory firm Forward Legal and menswear retailer Formal Image have also signed on.

They join members Bay Vista Dessert Bar and Café, Arab Bank, Novotel, Coronation Property, Chemist Warehouse, 175 One Hotels and Apartments, Epic Dry Cleaning and Laundry, the City of Parramatta Council and the Parramatta Chamber of Commerce.

Milky Lane owner Elvis Sabapathy said joining the Parramatta Light Rail Business Reference Group was an important step in staying informed about what to expect when construction kicks off.

“The group has provided me with a platform to have my say,” Mr Sabapathy said.

“It is clear that the group is united in what it wants to achieve for all businesses along the Parramatta Light Rail route.”

The Parramatta Light Rail Business Reference Group was established in September 2018. So far, Transport for NSW’s business support initiatives include the introduction of a construction ‘grace period’ for Parramatta’s ‘Eat Street’ each year, from the beginning of November until the end of January; a commitment that construction will not begin on Eat Street until 2020; and free business advisory services.
