Parramatta Light Rail attends 2020 ARA Conference

25 March 2020

Earlier this month, Parramatta Light Rail Program Director Anand Thomas attended the Australasian Railway Association (ARA) Light Rail 2020 conference in Canberra.

It was an important opportunity for light rail operators, manufacturers, contractors and city planners from around Australia to gather together during an era of growth in light rail in this country.

A keynote speaker at the conference, Anand presented on Parramatta Light Rail’s planning and progress so far. The project was highlighted among international case studies of light rail and urban renewal, developments in tram corridor design, new safety features and asset management. It was fascinating to see what is happening both globally and nationally in light rail, and a great chance to share Parramatta’s approach to building the network.

In 2023, Parramatta’s will be the newest light rail network to launch in Australia, following the opening of Newcastle, Canberra, Gold Coast and Sydney Light Rail networks in recent years. It will run 12-kilometres from Westmead to Carlingford via the Parramatta CBD and Camellia.

Transport for NSW is working to deliver a modern light rail that ensures customers have access to great destinations, vital job centres and growing communities across Western Sydney.
