Westmead wonders on show in shop local guide20 September 2020
The spotlight is on local Westmead businesses along the future Parramatta Light Rail alignment in the latest ‘shop local’ guide produced by Transport for NSW.
The new guide lists a wide range of Westmead businesses, from the local bakery and dry-cleaner to popular Thai eateries, that people can visit and support. Local residents are encouraged to try something new, be rewarded for it and know they are supporting a business in their neighbourhood.
Transport for NSW is embarking on a range of local area marketing campaigns under the tagline ‘Activate Parramatta’ for businesses along the light rail alignment to attract people to the area during construction, with special offers for Westmead are available at www.activateparramatta.com.au.
Westmead, home to one of the largest health, education and research precincts in the southern hemisphere is undergoing a transformation. In the short term, this means a lot of construction activity is taking place. The local shopping guide is intended to showcase the variety of restaurants, cafes and services still open for business.
More than 60 Parramatta restaurants, cafes and takeaway shops took part in an accompanying ‘Dine, Scan, Win’ campaign launched by Transport for NSW in June. Currently, more than 20 businesses feature as part of ‘Shop. Scan. Win.’, which wraps up next month, along the Carlingford to Camellia corridor.
The $2.4 billion Parramatta Light Rail will connect Westmead to Carlingford via the Parramatta CBD and Camellia, and is expected to open in 2023.
