The Parramatta Light Rail is one of the NSW Government’s latest major infrastructure projects being delivered to serve a growing Sydney.

Light rail will create new communities, connect great places and help both locals and visitors move around and explore what the region has to offer.

Work is progressing on the Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1 project following the completion of major construction. The current phase of work includes the fit-out and testing of all 16 light rail stops, systems testing and signalling work, overhead wiring work, and light rail vehicle testing and commissioning.

Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1 will connect Westmead to Carlingford via the Parramatta CBD and Camellia with a two-way track spanning 12 kilometres, and is expected to open in mid-2024.

The route will link the Parramatta CBD and train station to the Westmead Health Precinct, Cumberland Precinct, CommBank Stadium, the Camellia Town Centre, the largest museum in NSW Powerhouse Parramatta, the private and social housing redevelopment at Telopea, Rosehill Gardens Racecourse and three Western Sydney University campuses.

Planning and development work is underway for Stage 2 of the Parramatta Light Rail, which will connect Stage 1 and Parramatta's CBD to Sydney Olympic Park via Camellia, Ermington, Melrose Park and Wentworth Point. It will link communities north and south of the Parramatta River directly to the Parramatta CBD, the Camellia Town Centre, as well as the booming sport, entertainment, education and employment hub at Sydney Olympic Park, and to the Carter Street Precinct.

Delivered as part of the Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1 project, the shared path is a public area designated for the use of walking and bicycle riding. It can be identified by signs and/or pavement markings showing a pedestrian and a bike.

The shared path starts at Boundary Road, Carlingford and runs alongside the Parramatta Light Rail alignment to Tramway Avenue in Parramatta. The path also travels over the new shared active and light rail bridge, Bidgee Bidgee Bridge, in Rosehill.
