WSABE sponsorship underpins project’s sustainability focus

30 August 2023

The Parramatta Light Rail project is proud to sponsor the sustainability category of the 33rd annual Western Sydney Business Excellence Awards (WSABE) for the sixth consecutive year.

WSABE aims to recognise outstanding business leaders and organisations that are actively contributing to Western Sydney region’s rapidly developing economy.

As the ‘Excellence in sustainability’ category sponsor, Transport for NSW continues to deliver sustainable public transport infrastructure as part of the Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1 project. Recent sustainability initiatives include:

  • a new 5.7 kilometre shared walking and bike riding path along the light rail corridor from Parramatta to Carlingford to improve connectivity
  • planting more than 5500 new trees in Parramatta by 2024
  • NSW’s first light rail green track to reduce urban heat and improve biodiversity
  • using 80 per cent locally sourced materials in light rail stop construction
  • delivering a wire-free track in two zones to integrate with urban and heritage-sensitive environments.

Having reduced its overall greenhouse gas emissions by more than 76,000 tonnes, the Parramatta Light Rail Stage 1 project continues to deliver a sustainable and future-proofed transport system for the Western Sydney community.

Congratulations to B Dynamic Logistics, ECORR, Endeavour Energy, Everest MoMo Australia, Evolve Housing, Flower City and RD Facilities Management for being shortlisted as finalists in the Parramatta Light Rail ‘Excellence in sustainability’ category.

Winners will be announced on 13 October 2023, and we wish all award finalists the best of luck.
