Proposal to extend construction hours

30 September 2022

Planning and development work for Stage 2 of the Parramatta Light Rail is continuing, which will connect Stage 1 and Parramatta’s CBD to Sydney Olympic Park via Camellia, Rydalmere, Ermington, Melrose Park and Wentworth Point.

During May and June 2022, Transport for NSW engaged with the community to seek feedback on the Stage 2 preferred route and proposed stop locations, and to understand the challenges arising from the construction and operation of the light rail.

Extended construction hours

Transport for NSW is seeking further input from community on proposed extended construction hours to be included in the project’s planning approval. Construction of the project will not commence until planning approval is received.

Current standard construction hours are: 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday; 8am to 1pm Saturday; no work on Sunday or public holidays.

Transport for NSW is proposing extended construction hours to: 7am to 7pm Monday to Sunday (inclusive of public holidays).

The benefits of extended construction hours are to:

  • potentially shorten the duration of construction and reduce noise and access impacts
  • provide the flexibility to program works at times when traffic volumes are lower, minimising the potential for disruption and providing safety benefits for workers and the public
  • allow works within Sydney Olympic Park to be planned around special events.
